"Prince Paul for Romania" Foundation

The Prince Paul for Romania Foundation was founded in 1991 by Prince Paul of Romania as a Romanian legal entity, public,non-governmental, non-profit, apolitical organization that carries on cultural, spiritual and humanitarian activities.As years passed, throughout sustained effort the Prince Paul for Romania Foundation has obtained more than 6 million USD worth in donations such as medical equipment, medicine, books, computers, scolarships for students.

 The main purpose of the foundation is to rediscover the Romanian values, to restore and create a new image of this country. The conservation and  restoration actions, putting forward the monuments belonging to the national cultural patrimony, encouraging the development of medical research, updating or fitting different establishments with new equipment, stimulating and rewarding young talents-the real Romanian treasures-are the real objectives of the Foundation.

 
   Concomitantly, the Foundation has made special efforts to promote Romania’s image worldwide by attracting foreign investments, especially in areas like tourism, culture etc. A number of political, economical and cultural personalities have visited Romania following the Foundation’s Prince Paul for Romania invitation : NAOMI CAMPBELL, LARRY HAGMAN ("JR"), JAMES BREWINGTON (president of  AT&T), SARAH - DUCHESS OF YORK, EARL SPENCER (Princess Diana’s brother), etc.  

   Honouring top-model Naomi Campbell’s Bucharest for humanitarian purposes,two new medicine transports have been associated with her name..These donations from"AMERICARE", worth 290.000 $, were destined to help the AIDS, tuberculosis and meningitis patients from Victor Babes Hospital and children suffering from incurable diseases. Also, honouring Naomi Campbell’s visit the ICI INSTITUTE promised over 35.000 $, consisting in educational classes about AIDS, tapes in foreign languages and business management classes for students all over the country. We thank this remarcable lady for the interest she showed,for her care and preocupation for these poor and needy children. 

    At the reception that followed the Julio Iglesias concert in Bucharest ,the Foundation and 3M ROMANIA have announced that a shipment of sterile medical materials and miners masks in total value of $158,000 will be named in the honour of Julio Iglesias and distrubuted all over the country. During the 6 days in which the famous actor Larry Hagman and his wife Maj visited Romania there was announced that a $400,000 donation will be made for the foundation consisting in medicine . Two prizes were awarded to the best students of the Theatre Academy in Cluj consisting in a two-day trip to Paris.Another donation made on this occasion was worth $5000 and consisted in tapes for the study of English and French for the Carol Davila Foundation.

For these activities the Foundation was described by Reuters News Agency and Wall Street Journal  as a „succes story” in the Balcans area.

Here are some of the actions conducted by the Prince Paul for Romania Foundation:


    Donation consisting in medical equipment and farmaceutical products worth 250.000 meant to endow the Romanian hospitals. The source of these goods was the organization "DIRECT RELIEF INTERNATIONAL" from U.S.A. officially represented by HRH Prince Paul of Romania. "I had the great honour to have this first donation symbolically blessed by His Holiness Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church. This year we will receive another transport worth 250.000 USD for different hospitals in the country".    * The Foundation made public the humanitarian contributions that were extremely important for Romania by VIRGIN AIRLINES, whose founder is Mr. RICHARD BRANSON and organized a concert gala in London, with the purpose of fund raising for purchasing medical materials and medicine for the Romanian hospitals. Among the attendees were famous names including:Pierre Trudeau, former Prime Minister of Canada, Barbara Bush, the wife of the former American President and Oliver Rothschild. Hollywood stars, celebrities, barons, lords and countesses were at this event that took place at the impressive Hotel Savoy in London.

A $ 250.000 donation will be made to the Foundation in medicine.

    Under the patronage of the Foundation a group of Romanian musicians travelled to London and performed at the famous Sotheby’s Auction House in a unique concert to which 320 people from the high society in London attended. The concert was in fact an elegant salute to Romanian music and it was studed with valuable talents like Ionel Iliescu, de exceptional 14 year old violonist,numerous times first prize winner at international contests and  baritone Sever Barnea, solist at the Romanian Opera in Bucharest.
   The surprise of the evening was the recital of the reknown artist GHEORGHE ZAMFIR, whose presence was made possible thanks to the friendship shared with the President of our foundation Prince Paul of Romania. Zamfir played in duet with the appreciated harmonica player LARRY ADLER. Larry played together with Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers si Rita Hayworth.

    Due to the protocol made with companies like BRITISH AIRWAYS, LONDON HILTON, PARK LANE, LANESBOROUGH HOTEL and DACIA FELIX that sponsored the event which was talked about in the entire foreign press,the  Foundation received services valued at $73.000.

   The Foundation made an important Christmas donation to a retirement home newly established in Suceava, built under the patronage of His Holiness Pimen - Archbsihop of Suceava and Rãdãuti. The donation consisted in a modern central heating instalation,purchased from Denmark(costed $60.000).It was set inside the retiremnet’s home complex which has a capacity of 110 rooms, chapel, recreation room, dining area, library, gardens and clinic.

 

   To mark the visit of Miss France 1999, Mareva Galanter (of Romanian origin) to Romania , the Foundation launched repair and refitting actions for the 205 Elementary School in Bucharest, where through the "3M Romania" company’s competition and mister Wayne Garrett – General Manager, 600 benches and chairs,teacher’s desks,blackboards and computers were brought. Works included fixing the windows, doors,restauration of the wooden floors and painting of all the classrooms and school’s hallways.At the end of this project the total investment was $80,000. The prizes offered at the "Miss Romania-France Friendship Beauty Contest", organized by"Romanian

Publishing Group", consisted in weekends at luxury hotels in  Mamaia,"PEQUINET" watch worth $ 1,500 and a three day trip to Paris with AUSTRIAN AIRLINES.

    The Foundation donated a "Cryostat" equipment for the quick diagnosis of cancer,Aids and leukemia to the "Prof. Dr. Hociotã" medical center in Bucharest worth $ 24.000. Because this equipment can establish a diagnosis in just a few minutes compared to the two weeks needed for a classic investigation, doctors call it a real life saver.

    The Foundation donated 15.000 books in Romanian with the occasion of "Lucian Blaga" festival, for the schools in the Republic of Moldavia

    Our Foundation financially helped The National History Museum by donating the sum of $ 500 for printing the brochure called "The coins of the Transilvanian Principality - engineer Constantin Orghidan’s collection”.The brochure exhibits 799 pieces,mostly golden or made of silver dating from 1541.

    OLIVETTI and its general manager Mr.GIORGIO FAVETTO, through our Foundation, have made a donation consisting in two electronic typewriters one to the Metropolitan Church Iasi, and the second to the "Plai Mioritic"cultural association. The donor company was extremely happy with this colaboration as it has drawn a lot of publicity in the newspapers and TV stations from Moldova

    The Foundation pays special attention to historic research focusing on documents and memorial texts belonging to King Carol II, which constitues an archive inherited by HRH Prince Paul.  The book „ A King’s Memoirs” was published, which contains political essays written by King Carol II. Alongside that, the Foundation supports the publishing of historical  information regarding the historical and cultural Romanian patrimony .80.000 books were donated.

    $ 10.000 were donated by the Foundation to begin the consolidation and restoration of"St. Silvestru" Church in Bucharest and $2.000 were contributed to restor the mural paintings of        Tigãnesti Monastery.
    The Romanian Orthodox Patriarchy received from the Foundation $ 2000 as a present for its undergone charity projects.

    500 $ were given as donation for the construction of new churches, one in Brasov and one in Predeal
    The Foundation in collaboration with the „Plaiul Mioritic” cultural association were sponsors for the cultural event „Grigore Vieru – Basarabia’s Shout", that took place at Iasi on the occasion of the poet’s 60th anniversary and a cultural visit to Chisinau.

    The foundation created a spelndid sterling silver medal at the National Mint.This ,practically a jewel,was issued on the ocasion of celebrating 100 years since the inauguration of The Royal Universitary Carol I Foundation.
    On the holy Easter holiday,with the help of the Foundation,RANK XEROX donated a copymachine worth $4500 to Rohia Monastery, in Baia Mare.

     Humanitarian Help, from RUSCH Company, Germania, in total value of $ 240.000, consisting in beds, new medical equipment and medicine through the Prince Paul for Romania Foundation. The beneficiary: MUNPOSAN Cristian Medical Center. Sport equipment and prizes „Champions of the future” were awarded to the top gymnasts in the national junior team.On this occasion Nadia Comãneci received the „medal of Distinctiom" in the year 1995 fom HRH Prince Paul,as she symbolises all the qualities a sport role model should have: professionalism, integrity, commitment and team spirit. 20 Cindy Dolls were donated.

   The Foundation together with the Bucharest Music Academy organized the  Prince Paul for Romania Foundation’s Annual Music Prizes Award Gala.During this event there was a show performed by the winners.Also, awards and distinctions were given to personalities in the musical field such asa: Maestro Cristian Mandealopera singer Angela Gheorghiu, Maesto Nicolae Herlea, Constantin Dutu, Iosif Sava etc. (85,000 USD). During the festivities 10 prizes for interpretation were award, each of .. for the top graduates of the Bucharest Music Academy.

     Prince Paul of Romania in person handed his beloved aunt, Princess Ileana, turned Mother Alexandra $10.000 for the monastery she founded in Pennsylvania, USA.
    For Victor Babes hospital, Prince Paul of Romania donated $ 35.000, money that His Highness received at his wedding.
    He donated in September 4 Xerox machines worth $10.000 to the Journalists Union in Chisinau.
    Prince Paul For Romania Foundation was the John Mayall Blues concert’s sponsor.
    More than 150.000 history books were given as donation to the schools and universities in Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

    Through AMERICARE medicine and medical equipment worth $ 234.000 fitted Victor Babes Hospital in Bucharest. In January the Prince Paul For Romania Foundation inaugurated Brancoveanu’s Cross, to honour His Holiness the Romanian Patriarch, project for which they collaborated with sponsors like Jeronimo Moscardo Brazil’s Ambassador, businessmen, historians and church people. ($13.000 ) .  In March the Prince Paul For Romania Foundation made a donation in books in Gornetu-Cricov, Prahova County, occasion on which HRH Prince Paul received the Honorific Citizen Diploma.

    Elite  members of the Romanian Constabulery climbed the Himalaya wanting to help Romania’s image abroad.  Prince Paul of  Romania is the official sponsor of this action. The climbers’ team who reached Everest marked the 50th anniversary of Sir Edmond’s Hillary’s victory.

   In the same month, on the occasion of unveiling the comemorative monument in the honour of Doina and Ion Aldea Teodorovici, in the city Pitesti, Prince Paul and Princess Lia gave a scolarship to their son Cristofor Teodorovici.
    While attending the „Tulips Simphony” manifestation an important donation was made to the Zinca Golescu Highschool in Pitesti.  

   At the "Simbra oilor" a pastoral holiday taking place in Satu-Mare County, the Prince Paul For Romania Foundation made a great donation.
    During the visit in Brasov County Prince Paul of Romania made an important donation to the Triaj Church for construction expenses.
    The Prince Paul For Romania Foundation keeped its promise and honoured the protocols made with the "Radu Negru Highschool" in Fagaras and "Vasile Goldis Elementary School" in Alba-Iulia and Emny annual prizes were awarded to the best students. 

   HRH Prince Paul of Romania signed with the constables’s elite a 10 year protocol. It was his honour to hand the scholarships to the worthy cadets. The Prince Paul For Romania Foundation brought 2 tons of blankets and footwear to the victims of the floodings in the north regions of Romania

    The Foundation signed a protocol with the „Avram Iancu” University in Cluj Napoca for offering important praiseworthy awards.
     As a stimulent for the extraordinary efforts made in areas like culture, sports, and education the Foundation awarded 7 young national champions with a trip to Paris. This was made possible with the help of sponsors PLUZZZ VITAMINS and ING BARING BANK. These were in fact Romanian Ambassadors at the Parisian City Hall in order to change Romania’s image in the parisian press as well as international press.This action had a total value of $ 47.000. Another protocol was signed with the University of Bucharest, prizes being awarded for the top students at the History Faculty.
